Rob Graham is a multi-award-winning furniture designer and master craftsman and the founder of Black Woodpecker Studio, a bespoke furniture workshop based in Auckland, New Zealand.
Originally raised in England, Rob built a distinguished career in London designing high-end kitchens and bespoke interior furniture for some of the world’s most discerning private clients. His work became known for its refined English sensibility, meticulous attention to detail, and intelligent use of premium materials — qualities that now define his luxury handcrafted furniture in New Zealand.
After relocating to New Zealand over fifteen years ago, Rob found inspiration in the country’s dramatic landscapes and extraordinary timbers. This connection to place informs every piece created at Black Woodpecker Studio, where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary design to produce timeless custom furniture.
In 2025, Rob completed the full-time Professional Furniture Making programme at the Centre for Fine Woodworking in Nelson, training under internationally respected tutors and alongside an elite group of designer-makers. This intensive programme refined his technical mastery and elevated the artistic direction of his work.
Today, Rob designs and makes bespoke tables, cabinets, sideboards, and sculptural furniture for private clients, architects, and interior designers throughout Auckland and across New Zealand. Every piece is individually handcrafted using solid timber and fine veneers, created to last for generations.
